- 1Native soil. Excavated below the topsoil and roots to stable ground.
- 2Geotextile. A fabric layer that keeps the gravel from sinking into the clay.
- 3Compacted gravel base. Crushed stone compacted in lifts to carry the load and drain water.
- 4Bedding sand. A thin screeded layer that the pavers settle into.
- 5Pavers. Laid tight and cut at the border, with sand swept into the joints.
- 6Edge restraint. Spiked into the base to hold the field in place.
